Mechanical Engineer:

Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of all engineering disciplines, encompassing areas such as energy, fluid mechanics, dynamics, combustion, vibration, design, manufacturing processes, systems modeling and simulation, mechatronics, robotics, mechanics of material, rapid prototyping and composites.

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. This includes several disciplines which have now branched out. Mechanical engineering basically deals with all types of machines and their manufacturing methods. These machines include heat engines like petrol, diesel or steam engines, air conditioning, refrigeration and machines that are used to manufacture the parts several machine. Use of various production or manufacturing machines is also part of mechanical engines.

The breadth of the mechanical engineering discipline allows students a variety of career options beyond some of the industries listed above. Regardless of the particular path they envision for themselves after they graduate, their education will have provided them with the creative thinking that allows them to design an exciting product or system, the analytical tools to achieve their design goals, the ability to overcome all constraints, and the teamwork needed to design, market, and produce a system. These valuable skills could also launch a career in medicine, law, consulting, management, banking, finance, and so on.

Job Prospect:

Mechanical engineering is the broadest of all engineering fields, the job prospects on offer for skilled mechanical engineers are aplenty and unending. Mechanical engineers are required to design, test, manufacture, install, operate and maintain a wide array of machines and mechanical systems that are used in countless industries. These professionals can find employment both in the government and private sector undertakings.

Major industries that employ mechanical engineers include automobiles, space research, aeronautical, energy and utilities, air conditioning, bio-mechanical industry. Other major employers include giant manufacturing plants, air conditioning and refrigeration industry, turbine manufacturing plants, oil and gas exploration and refining industries and the agricultural sector.

In the government sector, mechanical engineers can provide their knowledge to various government run projects in the role of technical experts and consultants. They can also work in private engineering companies that provide technical consultancy to both government and corporate firms.

These engineers can also hold high managerial positions in government as well as private sector organizations according to their field of expertise and educational qualifications.

Department Profile:

Mechanical Engineering Department was founded in the year 2004 with an intake of 60 students for Under Graduate (B.E) program and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum.

The Department is currently headed by Dr B P Shiva kumar, M.Tech,Ph.D

The Department also started a Post Graduate (M.Tech.) program in Product Design and Manufacturing during the academic year 2010-11. The Department is well equipped with the state-of-the-art laboratories, class rooms, well staked library and is supplemented with Wi-Fi facility.

The department has a blend of highly experienced and young faculty members with research bent of mind. Many of our faculties have graduated from premier institutions like IISc, IITs and NITs. At present, the Department has three Doctorates and three faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. in their chosen fields. Results and placements of the students have been satisfactory. Many students have been placed in well known companies such as JSW, Infotech Enterprises Ltd., CTS, VOLVO Ltd., TKML, etc. on attractive packages.

Our students have participated in several technical symposiums, seminars and fests organized by VTU and other institutions. A group of students conceived, designed, built and participated in Formula SAE competition held in Michigan (USA) during May, 2010

Placements:

The placement department got a head start during the academic year 2002-03. The brilliance, dynamism and high academic performance of students made it possible for the department to attract high profile recruiters. In 2003, our college was placed in 8th place among the top 10 colleges in Karnataka, under VTU. This was one of the factors which contributed for admirable functioning of the placement department. The department is not only conducting recruitment process but also organising necessary personality development programmes for the students.

For example, the soft skill training by the experts has been moulding the students in improving their employability factor. The department counsels and pours self confidence to face the challenges in the future. The department also coordinates in organising HR Seminars by inviting high profile HR executives from both IT and Non IT companies.Department also facilitates Industrial visits for the students which would improve Industry-Academy relationship.

JSSATE was started in the year 1997 at Bangalore and is under the umbrella of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore.

The institute is the result of the vision of our president, His holiness Sri Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji to proactively participate in establishing a world class institution for technical education.

The Campus is located in a 21.17 acres land surrounded by green plantation on the South-Western edge of Bangalore City. Institution is associated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum.

The institute has an excellent infrastructure with the state-of-the art equipment and machinery as laboratory facilities. The institution has spacious classrooms and the laboratories. The institute has highly qualified faculty.
