Civil Engineering:

Civil Engineering is a famous and oldest branch of engineering which deals with buildings, bridges, roads, flyovers, railways, water supply, sanitary, development of townships and other infrastructural development. Due to liberalization policy of the government, many infrastructure projects like golden quadrilateral, National highway constructions and transport sector development are the need of the hour. Many multinationals are engaged in the infrastructure developmental activities.

The job opportunities are in civil engineering fields and software companies. Analytical and logical abilities and liking for the profession are the essential requirements. Subjects on concrete technology, transport engineering, water supply and sanitary engineering, geotechnical engineering, fluid mechanics and machinery, structural mechanics, hydrology and water resources, irrigation engineering are studied in this course.

As a civil engineer, you will have to plan out, design and supervise the construction of different types of buildings. You need to posses good knowledge of mathematics and science. Also, you must also have good supervisory and administrative skills.

Department Profile:

Department of Civil Engineering at PESIT was founded in the year 2012 with an object to create world class civil engineering department with state of art facilities to excel in academics and research activities.

The department aims to create professionally superior and ethically strong students. To achieve this, the curriculum is developed in line with the current trends in civil engineering industry and research. Some examples are advanced CAD labs, 3D modeling using Sketchup, Revit Architecture, etc. Also the department has highly qualified faculty members from academics and industry with vast research experience working on cutting edge technology. The faculty has published technical papers addressing the current scenario, in leading journals and conferences.

The department is equipped with state of the art infrastructure like class rooms with modern teaching aids, laboratories that include 100 Tons strain controlled Universal Testing Machine, Total Stations etc and a library having adequate number of books on different fields of civil engineering. Students and faculty also have on-line access to most of the international journals.

The students and faculty are encouraged to attend and publish in conferences, workshops and seminars, take part in competitions related to civil engineering, set up various chapter/clubs to carry out research/activities of their interest, like IGBC, ICI, Saṃniveśa etc. Student Academic Support Program is conducted after the class hours for the benefit of slow learning students in all the subjects. Guest lectures, invited lectures from the academic and industry experts are arranged to keep the students and faculty informed of the latest developments and industry challenges. The department would also like to organize national and international conferences, seminars and symposia in future.

The Department of Civil Engineering at PESIT is one of the new department of the institution with an annual intake of 120 students. The Department currently has total faculty strength of 13 inclusive of 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 7 Assistant Professors and 3 Visiting Professors.

Placement Services:

Has shown an upward trend as with others in terms of placements. Carry's out pre-placement training in the campus so that students are well prepared and confident when they take test and face the interview.

Going by the numbers, 81 companies had visited our campus in the academic year of 2013-14 and a total of 615 students were placed in top companies. This previous number is expected to be surpassed by a big margin this academic year as already 547 students have been placed and the placements are expected to continue till the end of April.
